Predictions on Betr: What Are Limit Orders?

Prediction limit orders, what are they and how they work

Now that Predictions powered by Polymarket lives inside the Betr app, you have access to some of the same tools serious traders rely on, and limit orders are a good one to understand.

The basics

A limit order sits and waits. Instead of trading at whatever the current price happens to be, you set the exact price you're willing to accept, and the order only fills once the market reaches it.

Say there's a market on whether Tim Cook stays on as Apple's CEO through the end of the year, and the "Yes" share is trading at 73¢, but you'd only pay up to 72¢. You can place a limit order at 72¢ and let it sit until a seller is willing to match that price.

Your order doesn't need to fill in one shot, either. It can fill gradually, in pieces, as different traders take the other side over time.

Keeping track of your orders

Any order you've placed but hasn't filled yet shows up right under the order book on that market's page. Trading across several markets at once? The Portfolio page pulls all your open orders into one place so you're not hunting through individual markets to find them.

Sports markets work a little differently. The moment a game kicks off, any unfilled limit orders on that market get wiped automatically, clearing out the whole order book at kickoff. Since start times can move around, it's smart to keep an eye on your orders rather than assuming they'll clear exactly on schedule.

There's also a short delay built into sports markets: 3 seconds before a marketable order goes through. A separate 1-second delay is being piloted on NBA and MLB markets right now, with plans to roll it out to more sports down the line.

Cancelling an order

Changed your mind? Find the order below the order book on the market page and hit cancel. As with monitoring, the Portfolio page is the fastest way to manage cancellations if you've got orders spread across multiple markets.

That's the core of it. Once you're comfortable placing, tracking, and pulling limit orders, you're trading like a pro.
